Accomplishing Goals and Movin’ On Up

It is often said that the only way out is through and knowing there is a light at the end of the tunnel can make all of the difference. 

It did for Sheana Brown. 

Sheana first connected with Community Partners of South Florida and the Securing Our Future Initiative (SOFI) two years ago. SOFI is a collective impact initiative that addresses childhood poverty in Palm Beach County and offered by Community Partners of South Florida (CPSFL) in partnership with Palm Beach County Community Services Department. 

Working with SOFI program coordinator Coryati Campbell, Sheana had a “bucket list” of goals she wanted to work on - everything from raising her credit score to making more money. 

Utilizing resources from CPSFL’s Prosperity Center, Sheana was able to raise her credit score by 100 points. With encouragement from Coryati and the CPSFL team, Sheana made the decision to go back to school to earn her B.A. in Business Administration, one class at a time. She walked the stage in her cap and gown this past June. 

“My school was very expensive,” Sheana said. “But with all of the help and resources, I was able to push through.” 

In order to make her tuition payments, Sheana participated in CPSFL’s Matched Savings Program and saved $1,000 - which was doubled and put towards the cost of her education. 

Aspiring for more, Sheana started to explore different career options in search of both a higher income and professional fulfillment. 

Sheana now works for The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin County where she is using the tools and skills she learned in school. She is also saving to buy her first home. 

“I am very excited to complete this journey and would like to thank Community Partners of South Florida for their continuous support and resources,” Sheana said. “Trust me, it is not easy to stay motivated but once I found Community Partners to help me on the journey - I knew there was a light at the end of my tunnel.”
