Building Leaders Building Communities
When Community Partners of South Florida clients walk through the door, the first thing they encounter is the CPSFL Promise in which we state that we value their voices and will do everything to facilitate a safe, supportive and respectful relationship.
We understand that a person’s voice is a powerful and necessary tool in supporting thriving communities and are working with Palm Beach County residents to equip them with the tools they need to self-advocate and foster the change they wish to see.
Building Leaders Building Communities (BLBC) is a NeighborWorks America competency course that focuses on training residents to develop capacity as community leaders.
As Palm Beach County’s only NeighborWorks affiliate, Community Partners of South Florida is hosting the Resident Leadership Academy and accepting nominees from a wide and multigenerational pool of BRIDGES members.
Nominees are chosen by BRIDGES directors based on leadership qualities and levels of engagement in BRIDGES activities.
“The member we asked to participate is in the process of starting a business with her husband,” said Oriana De Leon, Director of BRIDGES at Highland. “Joining Building Leaders Building Communities will sharpen her leaderships skills and we hope she can also take what she learns and apply it to her business.”
Once they accept the nomination, BRIDGES members will participate in a series of learning labs over the course of several months, eventually culminating in the tools necessary to serve on boards and facilitate tangible change.
“We cover everything from the recognition of individual strengths to discovering leadership styles to equity and recognizing our own implicit biases,” said Chief Strategy Officer Jaime-Lee Bradshaw. “One of the key components of the Resident Leadership Academy is the usage of SMARTIE goals to develop a comprehensive strategy. In order to be successful, we want our program to be Strategic, Measurable, Ambitious, Realistic, Time-Bound, Inclusive and Equitable.”
Resident leaders will also get the opportunity to network with peers across Palm Beach County as well as receive a stipend towards achieving their goals.
“Communities thrive when residents lead the conversation,” said Jaime-Lee Bradshaw. “Community Partners of South Florida is proud to serve as a leader in initiatives like Building Leaders Building Communities which ensure that resident voices are not only heard, but amplified.”
